Cosmos Café: Many Types of Intelligence [2024-01-18 & 02-01] - #6 by madrush
What is the Cosmos Café?
Free-spirited group conversations on a wide range of topics in philosophy, cosmology, consciousness studies, and beyond…
Open to all Cosmos members, the Café always welcomes new participants. If you’re new, please introduce yourself below. Cosmos members may also propose their own topics and schedule their own Café sessions, once they have participated in a prior event.
This Week
We’ll be reconvening after a long hiatus, perhaps reviewing some of the conversations we had last year (including series on AI, psychedelics, and the late cultural philosopher William Irwin Thompson’s book, Imaginary Landscapes: Making Worlds of Myth and Science), and looking ahead to what participants would like to explore this year.
One inquiry to get us going could focus on the many types of intelligence beyond (yet including) the human that we tend to disregard in the course of everyday business. Of course, much cultural attention of late has been concerned with “artificial” ways of knowing or extraordinary technologies, but what about ecological, cosmic, and spiritual/intuitive modes of awareness? This interview with James Bridle, author of Ways of Being: Animals, Plants, Machines, and the Search for a Planetary Intelligence, could serve as food for thought, though is not required reading or listening to join the conversation.
You can catch up with our latest explorations in the Cosmos Café channel of the Infinite Conversations forum—and if you’re new and planning to join us, please introduce yourself in the thread below.
