Magic Time at Infinite Conversations!

I wrote a piece this morning on Medium about Paradise Lost and the Grateful Dead’s version of “Tennessee Jed” on their great “Europe '72” album - within the context of the improvised solo, literary, musical or otherwise. I give a shout-out to IC near the beginning of the piece, which prompted some of the ideas in the piece! If you read it, I hope you enjoy.

This one “speaks” to me.

a meditation on speaking as creating, and

building as destroying
entropy as growing
striving as releasing

surrendering as praying
listening as speaking

~~ From composer Ryan Lott

Listening, strongly moved by this spare, soulful music/poetry…
that builds and builds… like a cry from the Earth
into the endless Cosmos…
then fades away…
Tears flowing.

Alan Watts Blues( Cloude Hidden) by Van Morrison. Lyrics:Well I’m taking some time with my quiet friend
Well I’m takin’ some time on my own.
Well I’m makin’ some plans for my getaway
There’ll be blue skies shining up above
When I’m cloud hidden
Cloud hidden
Whereabouts unknown

Well I’ve got to get out of the rat-race now
I’m tired of the ways of mice and men
And the empires all turning into rust again.
Out of everything nothing remains the same
That’s why I’m cloud hidden
Cloud hidden
Whereabouts unknown

Bridge
Sittin’ up on the mountain-top in my solitude
Where the morning fog comes rollin’ in
Just might do me some good.

Well I’m waiting in the clearing with my motor on
Well it’s time to get back to the town again
Where the air is sweet and fresh in the countryside
Well it won’t be long before I’ll be back here again

I read the lyrics first and felt like I might have written them myself…lately especially… But then the last verse confused me some. “Back to the town”? No, please! Countryside, all right…
I’ve heard this one before, and really like it, especially love “cloud hidden, whereabouts unknown” refrain which always brings to mind the “Cloud of Unknowing”, the mystical refuge…

Thank you for a sweet musical break…in a long hard day.
Wishing you well, friend.

One of our great singer/songwriters sums it all up. She is also a pretty good philosopher.

I’ve looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It’s love’s illusions I recall
I really…

Let It Be is one I play (guitar) and sing often…uplifts when low.
I do it slower with a tiny bit of improv here and there depending on how I am doing/feeling. It always turns into a kind of devotion…which is wonderful…
My used-to-be Buddhist teacher always chose Guadalupe (Central/South American Mary who marches with campesinos, pueblos pobres, outcasts and border-crossers, et al ) for Bodhisattva image when he did Lovingkindness meditations…

Been feeling this song lately:

And I love you in a place where there’s no space or time
I love you for my life, you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over, remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singin’ my song for you

(reminiscent of our latest discussion about Whitman and “Lilacs”)

Andrew, this really resonates with what I’m writing, involving a song with a feeling like the feeling this invokes…
