“We, as humans, need community, but before community we need to commune.” —Nora Bateson

With the increase in loneliness among all people, but especially among the young, and the concerns about the future of Life on Earth, it is imperative that we slow down and listen to each other, really listen. There’s nothing to fix, solve, or summarize.

On April 30th, Monterey Friends of Jung are conducting a free, online version of Nora Bateson’s Warm Data* Labs. Host Lisa Maroski received training in this methodology last year, so now she will be putting it into practice with support from the Warm Data community.

This online-only session, called People Need People, explores a question from multiple contexts. We don’t approach it from the head, however, but from the heart, through our shared stories and conversations. We wander through the deeper patterns and contexts that shape our lives and relationships. There’s no pressure to perform, debate, or fix anything—nowhere to get to, only the opportunity to be in relationship through simple, meaningful conversation that flows.

Mark your calendar. Registration information to come. This event is free and open to all, with a special invitation extended to the Cosmos community. Stay tuned for updates.

“Who can I be when I’m with you? Who can you be when you’re with me?”— Nora Bateson

*Warm data refers to relational information and is therefore strikingly different from information that is acquired by taking things out of their contexts. Because warm data is alive, responsive, and in relationship to other life, it cannot be measured, deliver definitions, or produce results that are repeatable. Hi @Lisa has the registration information been made available yet? We would like to mention it again in a newsletter to help get signups.

I need to work on that. I’ve been too focused on packing all my books to move.

Lisa

Hi Skye,

Well, it has been a bit of a process getting this thing set up. People weren’t responding to my email pleas for help. Finally I found someone… and here is the link.

Please don’t post it publicly, but do send to Cosmos members by email, if it’s not too late. If it is too late, then my bad.

Lisa

Hi Lisa. The newsletter sends on Thursdays, so that would be right before, so probably a little late to the game? We can still update the event page that we created for it on the Cosmos site, and I can also put it on our social media early next week, (it’s pretty much just Cosmos people who would see it right now,) if you’d like me to.

One note though, it takes me to a login page, not a sign-up page? Do people need an account for it to bring them to the right place when they click?

Hi Skye,

Thanks for pointing out that it takes you to a login page. I will send a separate zoom link. I thought that was what I was getting…

Ugh. Technology. It always takes 4 times longer than you expect…

Lisa

Hi again Skye,

Pardon my learning curve. This is my first time doing one of these events. So, the link I sent you last time is not the zoom link. Here is the zoom link and the invite again:

It’s not about taking notes or ticking boxes. It’s about slowing down and making space for connection — a meadow of conversation where fresh insights and relationships can quietly take root.

People Need People is a co-created experience that emerges in the beginning, comes alive, and then composts into the social soil at the end. Think of it like the best after-dinner conversation you’ve ever had – with people you haven’t met before. It will not be recorded.

What time on Thursday?

Hi Lisa, thanks for providing this additional info! Here again is the event page on Cosmos’ website: Warm Data Lab, with Lisa Maroski | Cosmos Cooperative

Would you like me to add the zoom link to the event page? This is “publicly” listed, but it’s not a page that will get very high traffic. Probably only our community members will be looking for it.

Also, just want to double-check on the time: does it start at 7PM Pacific time?

Let me know, thank you!

Hi Caroline,

Yes, it starts at 7 pm Pacific Time.

For people to get the zoom link, how about this: instead of the text “Registration information to come.” Put “To request a zoom link, send an email to jung.monterey@gmail.com.” And use whatever method to disguise it that you prefer (eg, :jung (dot) Monterey (at) gmail etc” so that the web crawlers don’t harvest it.

Thanks!

Lisa

It’s from 7-9 pm Pacific Time.

I have implemented the changes you requested, putting registration details at the top of the event page.

I can share the updated events page on our social media now, it’s mostly just cosmos people who follow the pages.

Great! It’s Cosmos people who might be most interested. Thank you!!
